Of course my mother really wasn't doing well financially. She received a pension for my father, but because he didn't get to be very old and wasn't a teacher for long, the pension wasn't very much. She had to earn extra money, doing sewing for other people. She sewed clothes, my clothes as well. I was always well dressed. Far too nicely for me. I envied other kids who had different fabrics on their aprons. I always wore the same material from top to bottom.
